Ataraxia

Today’s Best Word Ever is ataraxia: calmness untouched by mental or emotional disquiet.

Circa 1600 noun—also Anglicized as ataraxy—from Modern Latin, from Greek ataraxia, “impassiveness,” from a- + tarassein “to disturb, confuse.”

The first day of summer vacation the kids rose with a roar at 5:30
and Mom was already reaching deep within to achieve ataraxia.

    1. Our first day of summer vacation too. I needed this word this AM!

After dragging them out of bed morning after morning at 7 AM, today they pop up on their own at 6:30 AM, hungry and loud. What’s up with that??

    2. I know! It’s that internal clock, like daylight savings time, but built into children that says no bus stop, all-day play time, let’s make the most of this!
